In the process of up-dating your CV? Then take the opportunity to shout about your achievements. Don’t be modest, the aim is to sell yourself and stand out from the crowd.
1. Keep your CV relevant. It might need slimming down based on the number of jobs/training you have had over the years and their relevance to your next opportunity.
2. Skills based rather than a traditional reverse chronological CV might work best for you, particularly if you are looking for a career change.
3. A well written profile statement will gain the attention of the prospective employer and encourage them to read on.
4. Communicate skills, achievements and the benefit of outcomes. Demonstrate how effective you are/could be in the future.
5. Highlight key information in short punchy sentences, not paragraphs which can look dull and difficult to read. Use bullet points for maximum impact, but not too many!
6. Be mindful of duplicating language and aim to start each bullet point with an action word. In this situation, the I’s do not have it!
7. Make sure your Linkedin profile reflects your revised CV and pop a link to your profile on your CV for added gravitas.
Good luck, I hope this helps you on your way to your next exciting job opportunity!
